What the birds saw + a poetry gig this week

Most people just walked on
heading into the surprise heat of sun.
It made you close your eyes.
Bliss smoothed across your face,
the first time since October.

We swooped through a ballet
of unfurling limbs that reached across
grey screens. An empty stage
let the trees remind us.
We are all dancers.

And there's a poetry gig coming up this Thursday. I'll be reading work penned in the last year and a couple of very new pieces. Be great to see you there if you're in Brighton. Here's the info.

Thursday 23rd February 2012 - The Coach House
7.30
Brighton

The Coach House is a unique and intimate venue in Brighton (Kemptown) and I'll be joining 4thirtythree, A K A and Tom Cunliffe in an evening of improvised music and poetry.

Hi Andrea. Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. Had fun taking these shots yesterday. Wished I could have been flying through the limbs that made these shadows.

Oh, lovely poetry in these shadow images, the swing of the line is a dance unto itself. I see you got snow finally. Good luck with the gig.

Hi Maggie. Thanks. Pleased you liked the shots. We did get some snow, although not on my doorstep. The hills on the edge of town looked stunning. Thanks for your gig good wishes.

Hi Mary Ann. Yes - it was so warm if you could hide round a corner from the wind! Sorry you're not nearer for the gig. Thanks for sending good wishes.

Sun can be drug like after a winter of gray. Love your words and photos. Knock dead at the poetry gig. Xo

Hi Jeane. It has felt so good. Today, I just lay on a bench and closed my eyes in the warmth. Pleased you liked the shots. Looking forward to the gig. Guess I need to decide what to make the first shot with...... Ax

Hi Annie - I really loved those photos and the sense of dance and movement (or calligraphic marks in ink...) and "the bliss smoothed across your face" it's just a wonderful feeling! Have a great time at the gig - and hope it goes well as well.

Hi Fiona. Pleased you liked the shots. Still can't quite believe I saw this calligraphy dancing right in front of me. Back to grey skies today, I'm afraid. Thanks. Looking forward to the gig.

Hi Rosie. I think Spring is definitely on it's way, but that's good to hear. Thanks!

That's fantastic about the poetry gig! your poetry is inspiring, and deserves to be heard- like the poem in this post. Wonderful!

Hi Sharmon. Thanks so much for your kind words. As you know, I've been working hard with my writing for some years now, so this is a real boost. Really pleased to have been invited to read.

Smashing wee stanzas, Annie!

About the gig - is the music the only improvisation or is the poetry too? Imagine that would be challenging. Good luck.

Hi Gordon. Thanks so much. Had fun writing those. On Thursday, the music will be improv. Tom and I have both attempted improv poetry in the past, so something might evolve on the night. But I'm planning on reading rather than making it all up as I go along. (I'd love to create poetry how I create improv music, but all those words keep getting in the way.)
