The lion and the unicorn

pegged on a line
cast on the breeze
whispered to the river
swept downstream

poems flutter-flag
call you over
to read
to listen

tide drag
strums the wires
pages struggle with reins
as the wind gathers

a lion sits patient with your words
a unicorn takes your dreams into flight
your poem is a freedom
your poem is a bird
