- On my coffee table - Sadly, I'm almost at the end of "We are all made of glue" by Marina Lewycka. I'm trying to make it last another day even though my reading pile has way too many volumes waiting for me. It was Marina who wrote "A short history of tractors in Ukrainian" which has to be one of the most unlikely titles ever to have drawn me. I've also just started "Seeing stars" by Simon Armitage which is unlike his other work, but full of memorable images and I had a lucky find in the library - "Adverbs" by Daniel Handler - aka Lemony Snicket. Time off work and new reads on the table. Good timing.
- On my music stand - Well, I have some precious time off work (day job) at the moment so I am making sure that I have a proper break. However......
- On my radio - The BBC Proms are filling our Summer airwaves with great sounds, every night until mid September from The Royal Albert Hall. I've been a fan since I was a tiny child who wanted to play the violin. All the concerts are available on play again settings as well, so you can imagine, lots of music in the house. Highlights so far have been an amazing concert of Beethoven fueled with absolute fun and passion by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen aiming to perform as in Beethoven's time. The soloist was one of my favourite violinists - Hilary Hahn who seemed to be inspired to play beyond herself. I would love to have been there that night. And tonight was a Sondheim 80th birthday celebration that was fun from start to finish.
- At the allotment - Green and yellow courgettes, green and yellow zucchini, green and yellow courgettes, green and yellow zucchini. YES!! we have a glut. THEN we had some half decent rain, which has been a very rare thing in this part of the UK for way too long, so I guess there will be some more courgettes tomorrow. They've been making family, friends and neighbours very happy so far, but I think we might have to start leaving them in the park or something. Oak leaf lettuce which is delicious. The last few blueberries. French beans. Sweet peas which I can smell from across the room. They look so gorgeous as well.

oh, that zucchini & squash looks delicious. it sounds like your garden is doing well and with the rain it should produce even more vegetables. now, if only you lived closer, :)
have a great night.
Hi Naquillity. They are delicious. It's been a surprisingly good Summer for vegetables despite the lack of rain here. Anyway, I hope we don't go to find a field full of courgettes today!! PIty you can't come over.
wow! wonderful new look all around - love the 'melting pot' posts - I have jotted down the book titles and will definitely check them out - we had some freshly picked snow peas last weekend and they were so good! xxo
Hi Jeane. Thanks. Pleased you liked the new look. It's nice to think someone might read a book I have mentioned here. I think snow peas and mangetouts are similar, if not the same. I love them. They are so happy to grow here. We just finished ours, but we're trying a second crop of sugar snaps which should crop in a few weeks.
It's stepping into an all new world here at Inkhaven...a delight!
Love your description of radio broadcast...I can just imagine the whole house filled with this music!
Zucchini...friends start running away from your offerings...I've had that happen to me...best leave them on doorsteps and run! ha
Hi Mary Ann. Pleased you like the new look. There are so many new template options! It's like a sweet shop. I am a huge radio fan. I grew up in a house with a different radio station on in every room! Thanks for your tip about the courgettes. I might have to try it later!
I really like your new blog look, and have been listening to some of your music, which is delicious!
Your reading list is also interesting; any book entitled, "We Are All made of Glue" just has to be good!
p.s. I totally agree with Mary Ann about the whole zucchini thing! haha
Hi Sharmon. Pleased you like the new look as well. Thanks for having a listen to some of my music and for your kind words. "We are all made of glue" was a great read. And it took a new twist in the last chapters as well, which made it even better. "The zucchini thing" might make a good title for a book as well.......
What a beautiful life filled with all kinds of creativity. You inspire me Annie!
Hi Leslie. Thanks! There are lot of ordinary bits as well, of course, but yes, I'm lucky to be able to enjoy these things.
I am in the middle of Marina's '2 caravans' quite dark with a wonderful humour - looking forward to getting the glue one from my daughter when she's finished it - meantime am also dipping back into 'The Summer Place' Tove Jansson and Wildwood, Roger Deakin - 2 of my favorites! Your allotment sounds quite yummy - and it's still raining down here in Devon with a watery sun trying it's hardest to break free of clouds!
Hi Rose. I loved 2 caravans as well, so I think you'll definitely enjoy the glue one. I love those 2 that you mentioned as well. The allotment is doing amazingly well seeing as it has had to do without rain. Hope your clouds disappear soon.
Love the new look on your blog...haven't I been visiting...oh my! I love zucchini and mine are coming all male blossoms! Last night we roasted zucchini in tin foil on the coals of our campfire. So delicious! Enjoy!
Hi Maggie. Thanks. Thankfully, the courgettes had a bit of a lull,so we had time to trim and weed them ready for their final flourish. They guzzled every drop of water we gave them, so I think they'll fruit for a couple more weeks. The campfire cooking sounds great. I must remember that.
